Mediterranean Diet? I'm trying to convince my step-mother to use the Mediterranean diet to help protect her from health problems due to unhealthy eating habits. Can anyone suggest a great 1 full day menu I could use to describe to her a typical day of this diet?
Mediterranean diet? Please fill me in on their diet! What do they typically eat? What are some desserts? BE DETAILED! Thanks. Websites would be helpful as well. (:
What should be included or excluded to get a "Mediterranean diet"? I know a Mediterranean diet is basically rich in tomatoes and olive oil, pasta, and salads. I don't know about their saturated fat intake but they seem to be big on cheese and cold cuts. But what about spices. Maybe they have less heart trouble because of something in the spice category? Or is it just the olive oil? What spices are common in such Mediterranean diets?
Am looking for any Mediterranean Diet Cookbooks you'd recommend? Went to Barnes/Nobles, they didn't have any. I live alone & am not a big eater; just want to ensure what I DO eat is healthy. I naturally lean towards the Mediterranean Diet anyhow so I may as well start learning it. Do you have a cookbook you've personally tried & can recommend for me? Thanx.
V&V Friends: Do you think we should ask YA for a "Mediterranean Diet" section? Mediterranean diet, meat reducer, piscavore or pescatarian… whichever word you like to give omnivores who only eat fish, do you think we should try to get them a section? I am sure to get lots of rude answers for this, but the pescavore/tarians probably have it tough. When they ask in the general food section about dishes where the only meat/ animal used is fish, they probably get lots of “eat steak” answers. Then they try to come to the vegetarian section to ask about eating sea animals, which then annoys (and sometimes offends) vegetarians because vegetarians don’t eat animals. Maybe if they got their own section, they could exchange lots of fish recipes and be happy to be around others like themselves. YA does add sections on occasion, so maybe if enough people asked, they could get their own little panel in YA. What are your thoughts? :)
Can a Mediterranean diet late in life undo all the damage that eating junk food did earlier? If you learn the error of your ways when you're in your 50s and switch to fruit, fresh vegetables, whole grains and omega 3 fish, will your body come right or are you permanently knackered after a lifetime of fizzy drinks, pies chips and lollies? And if you've eaten a lot of high cancer risk foods like char grilled meat, does your cancer risk come down if you quit and switch to bioflavonoids, red wine, pumpkin etc.?
where can i find information on a mediterranean diet? i'm looking for easy to follow guide or information on a mediterranean diet.My Dr. suggested i go on this diet for health reasons like heart health, diabetes, and so on,if i loose a few pounds in the process thats great but its not to loose any weight,so please don't tell me about some berries, miracle diets, pills,or anything like that,i'm just looking for the info on this diet, thank you to all in advance
Is the Mediterranean diet just another ridiculous diet? My doctor wants me to follow the Mediterranean diet for 2 weeks to monitor my blood sugar. But that just seems stupid because it is LESS healthy than my current diet! I'm all about clean eating: fresh fruits/produce, lean proteins, egg whites, no artificial crap and no soda. So if my diet is already super healthy, isn't ridiculous to ask me to change???? I am at a healthy weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. I just don't like the pasta/bread/etc. carbs!!
How can a busy student best fit the mediterranean/asiatic diet in his life? Hello, I'm following the mediterranean and asiatic diets (see http://www.mediterrasian.com) to have a healthier lifestyle and to lose weight (read: A LOT of weight). I have, however, a few questions: * Drinking half-a-bottle of decent wine is too expensive for me. I'm thinking about consuming one or two bottles each week, only. Is it better to drink a little everyday, or more less days? * As many brazilians, I consume huge amounts of cold-infused yerba mate (5-10L every day). Is it good or bad for my health? Has it the same benefits of tea? * Eating out costs the same for me, but isn't it better to skip the lunch at University, and eat only at home, having super-healthy breakfast and supper? * Besides carrots, are there any healthy and easily-made snacks I could carry around? * Is yoga good for losing weight? * Do I actually need anything more than 30 minutes of walking and a healthy diet to lose weight? Thank you very much for your time!
Does anyone know what The Mediterranean diet is? I've been reading news articles this evening about The Atkins Diet vs. a low-fat diet vs. the medieterranean diet, but can't find any info about it. What can you eat? What is off limits? Just what the heck is it???
Does the Mediterranean diet help weight loss? Nutritionists' answers welcome! :)? I heard it does. I've been trying to eat healthier this year (and shed 10-15 pounds) & I'm willing to try anything that could help me along that journey. I'm also (sort of) a vegetarian. I only eat fish occasionally--like, once every 3 months, at most. I've heard that the diet is really heart-healthy. But also that it has a lot of salt in it. What's this contradiction?
Have you tried the Mediterranean diet? I am working on a little research project on the Mediterranean project, for my own personal curiosity. If you have tried the diet could you please answer these questions? It would really help me out : ) 1) how did the diet effect your energy level? 2) any weight changes? if so explain 3) effects with hunger? 4) effects with sleep? 5) any other side effects?
Is the Mediterranean Diet effective? I have problems to lose weight and furthermore to keep my weight in the following. Friends have told me about the Mediterranean Diet so I would like to know how this Diet works and if it is effective to keep the weight I'll reach after dieting.
Would a traditional "Mediterranean" diet be good for Filipinos? Why/why not? *high consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread and other cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds *olive oil is an important monounsaturated fat source *dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts, and little red meat is eaten *eggs are consumed zero to four times a week *wine is consumed in low to moderate amounts

Should I try the Mediterranean / Sonoma Diet or the Anti-Inflammatory / Zone Diet? Okay, so a little background: I'm 24, healthy, slim, love to be outdoors, etc. My boyfriend and I also love cooking and baking together at home, but a lot of times we go out because it's faster (both busy with work, etc.). We're trying to eat at home more often to save money and be healthier, and I wouldn't mind dropping a few pounds as well if it's more of a "lifestyle change." I'm thinking of trying one of those trendy eating plans out there, but I'm not sure which is better. The first one is the Mediterranean / Sonoma Diet, and the second one is an anti-inflammatory version of the Zone Diet. Keep in mind, this is more for health than for weight loss, I would really like to learn a new way to eat that's not meat-and-potatoes like we both learned growing up. Can anyone recommend which of these might be better? Here are two pages I read with a review of each, they also recommend the books I'm thinking of checking out: Mediterranean - http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/healthy/news/diet_mediterranean Anti-Inflammatory - http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/healthy/news/diet_antiinflammatory I want to be alive, healthy, and happily eating for a long, long time, so I'd appreciate hearing any responses, reviews, advice, etc! Thanks!
What does a mediterranean diet consist of? I love seafood and I think this meal plan is right for me but I have not read too much about it. Does anyone know of any specific food that I can or cannot eat? For example, are mussels ok to eat for this diet? cashews, light soy milk, crab, scallops. What kind of fat is good fat and what food can I get it from? Can I eat cottage cheese? Am I allowed to eat brown rice? Pasta? How can I get food rich in whole grain, in the form of bread, cereal? Is bread allowed?
How do I cook fish and not make it taste like fish?? My husband and I are on the Miami Mediterranean diet and it calls for alot of fish. I'm really bad at cooking fish. (not including fried fish- I can do that I'm from mississippi) Baked or grilled. Is there a good marinade? What seasonings?? WE like tilopia and salmon.
Mediterranean Breakfast menu? I have been looking all over for what a traditional mediterranean breakfast menu would look like. Do you know of any books or websites that would have this info? We would like to begin a mediterranean diet, but we need to know what to serve for breakfast!
Are there any Mediterranean based diets? I love things like feta cheese, tomatos, olives, peppers,.... is there a Mediterranean sort of diet that is based on the sort of things you would get on holiday in Greece?!
What is a good, healthy diet? I want to be on a healthy diet, but I want a lifestyle change! Is there a guide as to what is good to eat and what to avoid? I don't want to go on some quick lose 30 pounds in a month diet. I mean a diet as in eating habits.I heard the Mediterranean diet is good for lifestyle changes, is this true? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
What is the Mediterranean diet? Everyone seems to be going on about the Mediterranean diet nd how good it is for you, but what exactly is it and how do you adopt it?
Is gelatin in Yogurt unhealthy ? Where i live Yogurt plays a great part in the Mediterranean diet and tv-advertising can have a great impact. Now, a very popular advertisment states that "product A" Yogurt is better that the other "smoother" and "creamier" ones because it contains NO gelatin. Now everybody is just crazed about "gelatin" and do not buy the other Yogurt brands. Please explain to me why is/would Gelatin be wrong. Is it unhealthy? Thanks in advance! Hey! Nice answers everybody! I really liked they Muslim-view and the Vegeterian-view about it, did not think about it at first. And thanks for the spelling report. I too know it as "gelatine", but was not sure. Makes it kind of hard for me to choose a best answer...
Am I doing myself good by eating olives? I remember there was an advert for an olive oil spread and it said that people live longer in the Mediterranean because of their diet. Since then I have always tried to eat lots of olives even though I don't love them but don't mind them and use olive oil and garlic a lot. Am I really doing myself some good by eating lots of olives?
